For 24 hours starting 3 PM on Friday, August 12th through 3 PM on
Saturday, August 13 about 200 people stopped by to stand in support of
Cindy Sheehan's Vigil in front of George Bush's Ranch in Crawford,
Texas.
Cindy Sheehan is a cofounder of Gold Star Families for Peace. Cindy wants to ask President Bush, what was the "noble cause that her son died for in Iraq." In the year since she first met with George Bush who sat aside time to visit with the families of some of those who died in Iraq, the foundations for the publicly stated reasons for the war in Iraq have crumbled. The official US government reports state that there were no nuclear weapons, no significant or credible nuclear weapon programs, no biological weapons, no biological weapons programs and no linkages between Iraq and the September 11th attacks. The leaked "Downing Street Memos" (April 2005) have also documented the lies that deceptions that the Bush Administration would use to precipitate a military action to remove Saddam. We believe that Cindy Sheehan is asking the right questions and deserves answers. We stand in support of Cindy! See Cindy's Blog from Crawford. Also Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) is another good site. West Hartford Town Hall Green was the site of a 24-hour rally in support of Cindy Sheehan’s 24/7 vigil outside of President Bush’s Ranch in Crawford, TX. The Iraq Memorial Wall, WHCPJ’s banner, and mock coffins draped with American Flags and black shrouds representing fallen American soldiers and Iraqi civilians, respectively, are the back drop of vigilers in lawn chairs with signs and American flags at the corner of Memorial Drive and South Main Stree Temperatures exceeding 90 degrees with coupled with high humidity found most visiting vigilers under the shade of the beautiful trees on the lawn of town hall. As the minutes and hours wore on, people stopped by on their way home from work, on family walks with strollers and dogs happily joined the contingent in support of Cindy’s quest for answers. “Thank-yous” and lots of coolers with ice cold water bottles were offered throughout the vigil. Coffins covered with black shrouds represent the tens of thousands (understood to actually be in the hundreds of thousands) Iraqi civilians who have died since the invasion and occupation of Iraq began over 2 years ago.
